Iditiroad
Eisenhower, as a young officer was given the duty to consider how to go from coast to coast with a military convoy at a time when roads were mostly unimproved. It proved an adventure but it planted seeds of thought in the mind of Ike. World War II gave Ike a chance to evaluate the autobahn and to copy it's design to his vision. How did the 101st airborne arrive for the Battle of the Bulge-By truck.

The U.S. highway however must be given it's due as it served the nation before the Interstate system. The likes of highway 50 going pretty much coast to coast and passing through Montrose, CO, Washington D.C.. Don't forget 30 linking the NW to the eastern seaboard. 101 that they prefer trucks stay off of but giving views of the Pacific ocean unequalled.
And who can forget 66 linking So Cal to Chicago. Get your kicks on 66
captured the wanderlust of the nation. Clinton is attributed to making it a historical icon. Don't forget the devils highway-666 which has been renamed because of it's negative connotations. These highways were mostly two lane, passed through the towns versus the bypasses. But keep in mind, they are still a kick to drive and interstates are for sissies.
In future blogs I'll take you along with me on some of these.

Britany Spears just popped into my mind - Beaver, Utah would be a great place for her to have a summer home! As much time as you spend in Beaver, Utah do you think we could get some pictures?

Update A load from Denver to Kansas City, then a
load to Palestine, TX got me through Stillwater Ok
so I could see Leah graduate with her master
degree. Took her and LaVaughn out to eat a coupla times. They have a cafe in Stillwater called Eskimo Joes-which the locals claim is world famous.
I am always mispronouncing it for Leah's entertainment-It has been called Yukon Jacks and Inuit Charlies. The professor gets a laugh out of that. Leah will be teaching at U of Arts and Science at Chicashea, OK. From Palestine TX I went to Cullman, AL and am now sitting in Memphis enroute to Houston, TX

Here i am in Ripon, CA. Delivered my load of
bleach to Walmart in Porterville, CA. 1700 mile
haul from near Ottawa, KS. A couple easy days on
Christmas eve and Christmas day. A steak dinner in
Beto Jct, KS on Christmas eve and a night in a motel in Pratt, KS. Christmas evening was in Tucumcari, NM having driven accross KS, OK, TX and
into NM. The next day I covered NM and spent a nite in Williams, AZ. The final day push out of AZ and into CA proved a wrestling match pitting me against the wind. Arrived just north of Bakersfield.
